Let's go for a walk

Let's go for a walk- a poem by Hazel Goss

The sun’s up, what’s the delay?

Stop feigning sleep. It’s a brand-new day

I’ll fetch my lead, wag my tail,

I am ready to hit the trail.

   Let’s go for a walk.

Leave me be, go away

I’m staying in bed. It’s Saturday.

Stop whining, breathing in my face

You’ll have to wait for a ball to chase.

We’re not going for a walk.

You’ve had a lie-in, shake a leg.

You’ve missed breakfast, bacon and egg.

I’ll pull the duvet, on the floor

And pat your arm, with a gentle paw.

   Let’s go for a walk.

I concede, yes, I give in.

You can remove that silly grin.

Fresh air, I know, will clear my head,

It’s muzzy, too much beer and bed.

   Let’s go for a walk.

The lead’s clipped on, can hardly wait

He opens the door we get to the gate,

A gale beats us with torrential rain.

Will he turn back or move on again?

Let’s go for a walk.

I must be mad, pull up my hood

Brace myself, I know I should.

I'm fit, my legs are strong

Come on, stride out. I swing along.

   Let’s go for a walk.
